Wyoming is a state located in the western United States. With a population of just over 531,000 as of the 2010 census, it ranks 38th in population. The capital and largest city is Casper. The state’s other major cities are Cheyenne, Rawlins, and Laramie. Wyoming was admitted to the Union on July 10, 1890.


West Virginia is located in the Appalachian Mountains. The state has a population of over 1.8 million and is the 10th most populous state in the United States. West Virginia is known for its coal and natural gas resources, as well as its mountains and forests. The state’s largest city is Charleston.


Wisconsin is located in the Midwestern United States. The state has a total area of 77,610 square miles (200,609 km2). Wisconsin is bordered by Illinois to the south, Iowa to the southwest and Minnesota to the northwest. The eastern border of Wisconsin is shared with Michigan. The US/Canadian boundary runs through the middle of the state. Wisconsin has two major lakes, Lake Superior and Lake Michigan.

The Menominee and Potawatomi Indians were the first Europeans to visit what would become Wisconsin. In 1836, a group of French settlers established a small settlement near present-day Green Bay. In 1848, Judge James DuBois became the first governor of Wisconsin. Milwaukee was founded in 1835 and became the state’s largest city in 1849. The University of Wisconsin–Madison was founded in 1856 and Madison became its capital in 1889.


Washington is located in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. The state is bordered by Oregon to the north, and by British Columbia to the east and south. Washington also touches Canada to the northeast and southwest, through the Rocky Mountains. The state has a total area of 95,362 square miles (244,360 km2), making it the fifth largest state in the United States. The capital and largest city is Seattle. Washington became a state on November 11, 1889.

Washington is well known for its natural beauty, including the Cascade and Olympic mountain ranges, the white-capped Mount Rainier, and the clear, blue waters of Puget Sound. The state is also home to Microsoft,, Starbucks, and other technology companies. Washington’s economy is based on retail sales and tourism, with manufacturing playing a smaller role.

Washington has been a leader in environmental protection and public education. The state enacted the first environmental law in the United States, which led to the creation of Washington State Parks. The state’s economy has been significantly influenced by its natural resources (such as timber), which have been managed by the government since the early days of settlement.
